Welcome to Yoseikan-Ryu Ellenbrook

Yoseikan-Ryu Ellenbrook currently operates out of Swan Valley Anglican Community School Multipurpose Hall. Ellenbrook has been operating since 2010. A family friendly environment allowing adults to train beside their children. Operated by Rudi James one of Yoseikan’s longest serving members and supported by Iona Scott, Adam Pride and Chris White we offer a supportive environment aimed at building confidence, discipline and skill.

Rudi James – Head Instructor- 4th Dan Black Belt

4th Dan Yoseikan-Ryu Karate | Former Australian Team Member

Rudi James began his Yoseikan-Ryu Karate journey in 1981 and now brings over 25 years of dedicated teaching experience to the Ellenbrook Dojo. A highly respected 4th Dan black belt and former Australian Team member, Rudi has a long-standing passion for martial arts, both as a competitor and a coach. His competition record includes multiple state championships, international podium finishes, and representing Australia at the World Karate Championships. Off the mat, Rudi has played a key role in developing the sport through his work as Western Australian State Kumite Coach and as a Committee Member of the Oceania Karate Federation. His leadership, experience, and commitment to excellence continue to inspire the next generation of martial artists.

Iona Scott- 3rd Dan Black Belt

Australian Team Member | Australian Champion

Sensei Iona Scott is a 3rd Dan black belt in Yoseikan-Ryu Karate, a school teacher, and a proud member of the Australian National Karate Team. With a calm and thoughtful approach to both teaching and training, Iona is an Australian Champion who leads by example—showing students that success comes from patience, practice, and perseverance. She brings a warm and supportive presence to the dojo, making her especially popular with younger students and families. Whether she’s helping beginners find their confidence or guiding more advanced students toward their goals, Iona is passionate about creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for everyone.

Adam Pride- 1st Dan Black Belt

Adam Pride is a 1st Dan black belt and dedicated instructor at Yoseikan-Ryu Karate, known for his deep loyalty to the art and methodical teaching style. Though he may come off as reserved, Adam brings a quiet intensity to the dojo, emphasizing discipline and the foundational values of karate. His steady presence and commitment make him a respected figure among students who appreciate his calm, consistent approach to martial arts.
