Welcome to Yoseikan-Ryu Karate Padbury
Yoseikan-Ryu Karate Padbury (formerly Craigie) has proudly served the local community since 1993. Founded by Branco Bratich at Craigie Leisure Centre, the club relocated to Padbury Community Hall in 2020 during renovations at Craigie. In 2022, Branco’s daughter, Jessica Bratich Johnson, took over leadership of the dojo, continuing the family legacy. By 2024, the club found its permanent home—a full-time dojo at Hepburn Heights Plaza, Padbury.

Head Instructor for Yoseikan Padbury Jessica Bratich Johnson is a distinguished karateka and a pivotal member of the renowned Bratich karate family. As the daughter of the esteemed master Branco Bratich, she began her karate journey in 1989 under his expert guidance. She quickly made a name for
herself on the international stage, earning a bronze medal at her first Junior World Cup in Budapest, Hungary, in 1995. Competing in the girls' under-14 kumite division, she triumphed among a field of 19 competitors.
Her remarkable accomplishments have established her not only as an elite competitor but also as a role model for young karate enthusiasts. A 3rd Dan black belt, Jessica has amassed over 30 Australian Open and National gold medals, in addition to several international accolades, the most notable being a World Karate Federation Championship bronze medal in Finland in 2006, no West Australian has medalled since. Her tactical ability, dynamic kumite, and competitive spirit have earned her recognition as one of Australia’s top female karate athletes.
Jessica's karate journey is a testament to her dedication to the art, embodying discipline, strength, and self-confidence. She has frequently shared how karate empowers women, instilling the courage to stand up for themselves—a value she is passionate about passing on to her own children. Jessica has over 25 year experience teaching karate, she first started assisting as a brown belt at Craigie at the age of 13. Jessica has skilfully integrated traditional martial arts principles with modern training techniques, creating an empowering and supportive environment for her students.
In addition to her accomplishments as a competitor and instructor, Jessica serves as a State Coach, using her expertise to help develop top-tier karate talent at the state level. Despite running her club for only a short time, Jessica’s students have already achieved significant success at the National level, further cementing her reputation as an exceptional mentor and coach. While she is dedicated to nurturing competitive karate, she is equally committed to instilling essential values such as confidence, resilience, and respect in her students, guiding them to succeed both inside and outside the dojo.

Jane Redmond – Instructor
Jane Redmond is one of our newest instructors at Yoseikan Ryu Padbury, bringing with her three years of dedicated training and learning. Her journey into karate began when her daughter joined the club—after watching from the sidelines and seeing the positive impact it had, Jane was inspired to give it a go herself. Starting karate at the age of 40, she quickly discovered a deep passion for the art and a strong desire to grow within it.
Now, as an instructor, Jane works alongside Jess to share that passion with others. She’s especially enthusiastic about helping students develop their skills, build confidence, and discover their own potential through karate. Her unique perspective shows that it’s never too late to start, and that anyone—regardless of age, ability, or background—can thrive in this discipline. Jane is deeply proud and grateful to be part of the Yoseikan family and hopes every student she teaches feels the same sense of belonging and inspiration she’s found here.
