Welcome to Yoseikan-Ryu Karate Melville
Yoseikan-Ryu Karate Melville has a proud history that began in 1989, when Adam Camuglia first established the club under the name Yoseikan-Ryu Karate Palmyra. With guidance and support from Branco Bratich, Adam led the club for over a decade before relocating to England to pursue his teaching career. When Adam moved overseas, Branco took over the Melville club—supported by his daughter, Jessica Bratich, who had been teaching for Adam and was instrumental in ensuring the club’s smooth transition and continued success. In 2006 Adrian was invited by Branco Bratich to take on the role of Head Instructor at the Melville club—a position he has held with pride and excellence ever since.
Today, Yoseikan-Ryu Karate Melville remains committed to offering a safe, family-friendly environment where students aged 5 and above can explore the benefits of traditional karate—adapted thoughtfully for the modern world.
Whether you're new to martial arts or returning with experience, our programs are designed to build confidence, discipline, and physical fitness in a supportive and inclusive setting.

Proud Achievements
Many of our students have gone on to represent both Western Australia and Australia on the national and international stage—bringing home numerous medals and making us incredibly proud.
One of the club’s greatest strengths is the number of students who have advanced through the ranks to achieve higher black belt dan levels. This reflects the long-term commitment of our students, the depth of instruction, and the strong culture of mentorship that defines our dojo.
Our Instructors
We are proud of our team of highly qualified senior instructors, many of whom have trained at the club for years. Dedicated, experienced, and passionate, they are here to guide and support each student on their martial arts journey. All of our instructors are:

Brody’s early talent and determination saw him become one of Adam Camuglia’s first Junior black belts by the age of 11, eventually representing Australia in both kata and kumite at national and international levels.
Inspired by his son’s passion and success, Adrian decided to join the dojo himself in 1999, turning karate into a shared journey. His dedication and perseverance led him to achieve his Senior 1st Dan black belt in 2009. That same year, he assumed the position of head instructor for Melville In addition to leading classes at Melville, Adrian also conducts black belt training at our Malaga dojo, helping to guide and mentor advanced students as they progress through the senior ranks of Yoseikan-Ryu.

Life Member – Yoseikan-Ryu Karate
Madeleine began her karate journey at the age of 7, inspired by her older siblings and eager to follow in their footsteps. From her very first class, she was hooked. Her dedication and love for the art led her to earn her Junior 1st Dan black belt at 15, and later her Senior 1st Dan at 18.
Now over 23 years into her journey with Yoseikan-Ryu, Madeleine remains as passionate as ever. In 2021, she was awarded her 2nd Dan black belt and honoured with a Life Membership in recognition of her commitment and contribution to the dojo.

After earning her Senior black belt, she stepped into a leadership role, becoming one of the main instructors at the Melville dojo. Teaching has become a deeply rewarding part of her karate life—she loves sharing her knowledge and inspiring the next generation of martial artists.
To this day, Madeleine continues to teach and train, always eager to improve and deepen her understanding of the martial art. Robert Rogerson – 2nd Dan
Senior Instructor - Melville Dojo
Life Member – Yoseikan-Ryu Karate
Robert’s Karate journey began thanks to a little encouragement from his daughter, Alex, who kept saying “You can do it daddy” and fellow instructor Adrian. Despite being a mature-age student, Robert overcame the early challenges with persistence and support from his Karate community. He earned his black belt in 2008 and has never looked back. Karate became more than a sport—it became a shared experience with his children and a source of personal growth.
In recent years, Robert has also taken up Ju Jitsu, blending its techniques with Karate to deepen his understanding of movement and enhance his teaching, particularly in Kata.
For Robert, the greatest reward is helping others along their own martial arts journey. He believes everyone achieves something different through Karate, but the joy is in the journey itself.
