Your Karate Journey
7.What made you decide to start karate? My dad suggested I try it since he did karate originally the same style, shotokan. Since he enjoyed it, he told us to give karate a try and ever since then I developed a passion for karate.
8. How long have you been training in karate? 9 years

10. Why did you choose Yoseikan-Ryu Karate over other martial arts clubs in Perth? We chose Yoseikan Ryu karate because it is shotokan based and it stuck to the original fundamental pillars of karate which was appealing to us. It was also a convenient location for us as we live close.
Training Experience
13. What is your favourite part of training? Training along side elite athletes and being around a supportive environment which helps me see my progress and achieve my goals.
14. What skills have you developed through karate? Confidence, co ordination, self defence, discipline, resilience.
15. How has karate helped you outside the dojo? It has helped me become confident and helped me persevere through everyday ups and downs.
16. What do you enjoy most about the Yoseikan-Ryu community? I enjoy the engaging, high quality training and the support from the highly skilled, dedicated, caring instructors.

What makes Yoseikan-Ryu different from other karate clubs Yoseikan Ryu karate always strives to supply athletes with the best guidance and support to become the best versions of themselves while also reinforcing vital everyday skills like perseverance and discipline which are useful for the future and present.
Competition and Achievement
18. Have you competed in any karate tournaments? Tell us about your experience. I have competed at 3 nationals, 3 Aus opens, 1 Oceania championships and many WAKL state league tournaments. One tournament that I enjoyed was competing at the Australian Open, I enjoyed the electric atmosphere supporting all the athletes and the Yoseikan ryu team energy as a team to represent our club proudly and showcase our athletes skills and strengths.
19. What achievement are you most proud of? I am proud of achieving my junior black belt at the age of 11 and also winning the 2026 Aus open weight and open division as it has always been a dream for me to win an open division.
20. What challenges have you overcome through karate?I have overcome many challenges, karate has helped me build cardiovascular endurance and core strength, but also has helped me develop a never give up mentality, progression through the belts take years of patience, facing difficult sparring partners teaches perseverance helping me get through the daily struggles of everyday life.
21. What are your current karate goals? My current goals are to compete at the 2027 Australian open, 2027 Manila youth league, 2027 New Zealand youth league and 2027 Oceania championships.
22. What are you working on improving right now? I am diligently working on improving my strength through my knee and I strive to improve my flexibility, explosiveness and overall fitness and wellbeing.

Advice for New Members
23. What would you say to someone thinking about starting karate in Perth? I would tell them that I recommend Yoseikan Ryu karate if they want to improve on fitness, endurance, confidence, discipline and perseverance. I would share with them my journey through Yoseikan Ryu karate and how I have achieved some of my personal goals with them help and support of the dedicated trainers at the club.
24. What advice would you give to a beginner? If you want to be the best, train like the best. Only you can take charge of your progress and being winner doesn’t happen over night.
25. Why would you recommend Yoseikan-Ryu Karate to others? I recommended Yoseikan Ryu karate to others because it offers a safe space full of supportive instructors who will push you to your limits and help you achieve whatever you set your mind to.
26. What has surprised you most since joining? I have been surprised by the amount of opportunities and places that karate can take you, when I first joined I wasn’t aware of the competition side of karate and one aspect that I have enjoyed thoroughly is the travel associated with competition and experiencing other countries athletes.
