Karate WA Perth Open 2026

Yoseikan Karate Team competes at the Perth Open Karate Championships

Yoseikan Karate Club was proud to compete at the recent Perth Open Karate Championships, with athletes from our Malaga, Padbury, Melville, Maylands and Hamersley dojos representing the club across Peewee, Development, and Open divisions. From our Under 7 Peewee competitors taking their first steps in tournament karate to seasoned athletes competing in the Open categories, Yoseikan Karate Club was represented with pride across every level of competition.

The championships brought together karate clubs from across Western Australia, providing an opportunity for students of all ages and experience levels to test themselves in both kata and kumite competition. Yoseikan competitors delivered outstanding performances throughout the weekend, demonstrating the results of their hard work and commitment to training.

A particular highlight was the participation of our youngest students in the Peewee divisions. For many of these competitors, it was their first experience performing in front of judges and spectators. They showed tremendous courage, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship, gaining valuable competition experience while proudly representing the club. Watching these young karateka step onto the competition floor with confidence was a reminder of the strong foundation being built for the future of our club.

Our Development Division athletes also performed exceptionally well, showcasing the progress they have made as they continue their competitive journey. The Development divisions provide an important stepping stone for students who are building their competition experience, and our competitors displayed excellent determination, and composure throughout their events.

In the Open Divisions, Yoseikan athletes competed against some of the strongest karate practitioners in the state and achieved remarkable success. Across kata and kumite events, our competitors secured multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals, highlighting the depth of talent within the club. These results reflect not only technical ability but also the discipline, resilience, and competitive mindset developed through consistent training.

Team events were another standout feature of the championships, with our athletes working together to achieve podium finishes in the Children's Team Kata divisions. These performances demonstrated the importance of teamwork, trust, and mutual support, values that are central to the culture of Yoseikan Karate Club.

While we celebrate the impressive medal tally achieved by our athletes, we are equally proud of every student who stepped onto the tatami. Success in karate is not measured solely by medals but also by personal growth, courage, perseverance, and the willingness to challenge oneself. Every competitor represented Yoseikan with pride and embodied the respect and sportsmanship that karate teaches.

As one of Perth's leading karate clubs, Yoseikan remains committed to helping students of all ages develop confidence, fitness, self-defence skills, and competitive excellence through high-quality martial arts training. The Perth Open Karate Championships were another important milestone in our athletes' development, and we look forward to continuing our journey together at future tournaments throughout Perth, Western Australia, and beyond.

Congratulations to all of our competitors, coaches, volunteers, and families who contributed to such a successful and memorable event.
